Essay / Lust and Infidelity: Reckless and Loose - 646
Even at a relatively young age, I can attest that no one is perfect. Everyone I have met has proven this notion time and time again; it is one of the many inevitable downfalls of human nature. Lust, one of the seven deadly sins, is a common topic of controversy these days. Due to an uncontrollable physical attraction to someone or something, this feeling and action never seems to lead to a positive outcome. Currently, marital infidelity is at an unprecedented level, caused by a variety of sources including: greater availability and accessibility of divorce, greater value placed on other aspects of life, and publicly available pornography for young people . Nonetheless, a global upward trend in infidelity is evident, with very obvious reasonings behind it. One of my favorite, very logical and personal reasons why more and more people are cheating on their spouses is simply that people are getting caught more frequently. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead.” » Think about it; our current access to technology and resources is on a seemingly exponential upward trend. These advances, primarily the emergence of social media, are bringing new life to many formerly private matters. Recently, I followed the story of a couple who broke up because the girlfriend learned of her cheating boyfriend's cheating through her primary Snapchat recipients; she was already suspicious, saw this "best friend" of another friend of hers and realized that she was actually "screwed". I'm sure that would be understandable when she blew up at him via Facebook the next day. Younger couples are at high risk from the availability of pornography. The world is well past the point of discussing infidelity, whereas perhaps in the past they were reluctant or unable to do so. With women now largely present in the labor market, they no longer depend solely on the unilateral income that men bring them; this could lead to a higher divorce rate among the population. Additionally, through various women's rights movements, women have learned to be more independent; therefore, they are more willing to take action when a marriage fails. The world is an ever-changing habitat, its inhabitants rapidly changing from old to new over time. The subject of infidelity seems intractable and inevitable. People have noticed a steady increase in these numbers over the past few years. Many factors can contribute to this movement, from technological advancements to changes over time. People will continue to learn and adapt to these changes as they appear..
