Essay / Overview of the True Purposes of Education
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Lord counseled people to organize and teach one another. Acting on the revelation, the Saints began working to “establish a school for the prophets” in Kirtland. In this “house of God,” young men and women were encouraged to work hard to learn technical skills and gain knowledge of history and countries through all the good books. Education is closely related to building Zion and “Prepare whatever is necessary; » and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God. However, we often do not know the “why” of learning while understanding the “what” and “how” of learning these days. In a worldly sense, some say that education allows an individual to distinguish right from wrong. Some say that education only distinguishes the human being from other creations. However, education is much more than that in the evangelical sense of the term. The whole purpose of education is not only to receive systematic teaching in order to get a good job, but there are three important purposes: 1) Education shapes character and understands who we really are; 2) Education helps us know the relationship between God and us; and 3) Education helps us awaken a love of the truth and ultimately leads to our salvation. Isaiah 64:8 says, “But now, O Lord, you are our father; we are the clay, and you our potter; and we are all the work of your hand.” The more we resemble the Savior Jesus Christ, the closer we become to ourselves, because the more effort we put into studying, the more substance our soul has. We become more substantial and it is easier to “find” ourselves because there is so much more of us to find. The word “education” is originally derived from the Latin word “Educare”. This means training, leading and nurturing. This leads us to develop and shape our character to know who we really are. Second, education helps us know the relationship between God and us. There are three examples of non-LDS professionals from different fields. First, this Olympic figure skater says good performance comes when you focus on the connection between the inside of yourself and the outside of yourself. It all depends on what you can bring out from your interior. Second, this world-famous violinist says, “Dig deep within yourself and look within yourself. Good violin sound comes from asking “What can I bring out?” » instead of asking “What can I wear?” » Finally, this popular painter affirms that a.
