Essay / Learning Strategies and Methods: Personal Narrative 'a process. There will be challenges and victories. I think everyone is supposed to teach me something on this journey toward advancing my nursing education. I always felt that as a nurse it was important to stay current with evidence-based research, but returning to the formal school setting was an important step. As Hood (2010) stated, “A professional nurse must expect to engage in a life of continuous learning, growth, and development” (p. 30). I take very seriously the responsibility to be a lifelong learner and my commitment to excellence as a nurse. I am grateful to be able to say that with each course in this program, my skills and knowledge base deepen. Case Study Method of Learning The case study method is an excellent way to identify problems in a clinical situation. This method of reflecting on my own personal experiences in a specific set of circumstances has sparked thought-provoking questions and ideas. It also helped me realize the importance of having all the data before making a decision on a care plan. This becomes evident when trying to answer questions about case studies when there is not enough information. Case studies are a great way to put ourselves in a clinical situation so that as a nurse we can have a better understanding of critical thinking (Asselin, 2012). Challenges as an Evolving Leader The Nurse of today, as an evolving leader, must be compassionate, professional and treat the whole patient.
