Some harmful side effects that could possibly be caused by spanking are children suffering from depression, performing lower in school, or having problems later in life. It is impossible to notice side effects because they are usually not revealed immediately. People also believe that spanking cannot be proven to be more effective than any other punishment. They believe that parents can use other positive, non-violent punishments to show their children that their actions were wrong without subjecting them to the harmful effects of spanking.
