    All law comes from a single source of order. In a time of anarchy and chaos, a man brought from the top of a mountain two stone tablets from which all laws are derived. These two tablets, the Ten Commandments, were to be the seeds of a legal civilization. These seeds have since become the roots of modern humanity. The United States government is a perfect example. The expression “In God we trust”; is printed on every legal tender coin and most documents. The purpose of law and government is to “protect”; the people, but the fact that punishment is necessary only illustrates the fact that it does not protect. Punishment is only imposed after actions harmful to society have been committed. For punishment and judicial intervention to be applied, there must first be a crime or action that it is the government's responsibility to prevent from occurring. When the law is enforced, the government has already failed to protect the individual; punishment will do nothing to help the victim once they have been victimized. In truth, the law does not prevent such behavior; he only deals with it once it has happened. The law does nothing to prevent socially harmful behavior; it therefore does not protect in accordance with the principles set out in social contract theory. Why then, in such a modern civilization, do we have vigilantes? The answer is simple. The fact is that although humanity has progressed, the law has failed to keep pace. ...
