  • Essay / How Death Mentally Affects Others in the Body of...

This book explains how the death of one person can affect another, even people who didn't know the person who died that well. Torey, the main character, was once a bully to Christopher Creed and feels bad about it. Once Creed goes missing, Torey can only think about finding him. This affects him mentally and he becomes obsessed with taking care of himself. Torey is in his first year of high school at Steepleton. He plays football and baseball and is in a blues band with his best friend Alex. He and his friends are popular. Christopher Creed is a boy who is not popular at school and does not have many friends. He suddenly disappears. Torey didn't think much about Christopher's disappearance until Sunday. While at the church, Christopher's parents thank the people who helped search for Christopher and ask for more help from anyone who may know why he ran away. Christopher emailed the manager and no one knows if Christopher killed himself or ran away. Alex and Ryan remember being mean and bullying Christopher. Torey also remembers him hitting Christopher and thinks Alex and Ryan shouldn't joke about how Christopher could have killed himself. Alex later hacks the school computer to read the letter Christopher sent to Mr. Ames. He says that Christopher wishes he had been born as someone else, like Torey, Alex or other popular boys. Torey doesn't like how Christopher assumed Torey had a perfect life. Ali lives next to the Creeds house. She claims she doesn't have a perfect life, even though she's in the same group as Torey. She tells Torey that Mrs. Creed is strict with her children. Ali believes Mrs. Creed is responsible for Christopher's disappearance....... middle of paper ......opher. Several of Torey's friends accuse him and Bo of Christopher's murder. Angry, Torey goes into the woods alone and climbs over the edge of a toppling rock, and Torey breaks his leg. He sees his leg bone and wonders why his leg seems to burn but doesn't hurt. When the rock toppled over, a cave was discovered. Torey climbs into the cave with his broken leg. He sees a dead body and a gun and thinks he has found Christopher. Torey is taken to the hospital and then to a mental health facility. Everything smells burnt to him and nursery rhymes come to mind. He discovers that the body he found was that of Bob Haines. After several months, Torey recovers and his parents send him to a boarding school in another town so that he can avoid rumors and gossip. He continues to search and email people, hoping that he will eventually find Christopher..
