The death penalty, also known as capital punishment, is an execution in which the person who committed the offense is put to death by the state. This practice was first carried out in the colony of Jamestown, in 1608. The person was hanged for spying for the Spanish government and was the first person sentenced to death in America. Since then, it has been a way of punishing criminals for committing such heinous crimes and putting an end to violence and crime. Even if people agree that the death penalty is justifiable; this still violates international human rights laws. These laws were created to protect the lives of all human beings, including criminals, who some might agree do not deserve to live. Although some might say that the death penalty is justifiable to restore justice and moral order; he argues that killing is an acceptable solution to a difficult problem. The death penalty is considered justifiable because people who commit a crime and kill an innocent person should pay at all costs. If someone takes a life, their life must also be taken. They should face the consequences, even if it means dying. The death penalty only punishes the murderer for what he has already done. This corresponds to the saying “a life for a life”. The country must do everything humanly possible to prevent any individual from corrupting society and it is the country's responsibility to protect its citizens. If the murderer had the option to choose between death and life in prison, they would prefer to choose the second choice. Because many people are afraid of death, therefore the death penalty is acceptable. With enforcement, the future of society is protected from any corruption or terrible influence.
