LIGHT HOUSE PLCSUSTAINABILITY REPORTING PRACTICEIn Sri Lanka, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines on sustainability reporting are considered best practice in corporate sustainable development reporting. However, very few companies in Sri Lanka follow these Guidelines (GRI) and their reports are prepared with the minimum application level of the Guidelines (GRI). On the other hand, many companies have only disclosed their sustainability reporting practices in their annual reports, in which their social and environmental impacts are included. This disclosure constitutes a gap between expectations regarding the information needs of stakeholders in terms of sustainable development reporting and the information disclosed in companies' annual reports. (S. Senaratne, 2009) Lighthouse PLC, rather than presenting an individual sustainability report, showed its sustainability stance in the annual report under Management Discussion and Analysis. Some kind of disclosure is used in the annual report as a sustainability reporting practice. However, the disclosure is very detailed and contains all the necessary information for stakeholders about the sustainability of Lighthouse PLC. (PLC, 2013, pp. 23-33) The disclosure contains environmental and social impacts on the company, projects undertaken to improve sustainability, management procedures and controls, conservation practices and methods and other information related. The information is represented under different headings, which made it easy for users to find the relevant elements of the report. however, not all GRI guidelines have been followed by Lighthouse PLC, but the overall reporting document is very detailed and comprehensive.
