    Throughout Jewish history, we have seen significant transitions from 2000 BCE to 1492 CE. These transitions changed many different aspects of Jewish life. There are three specific events or turning points that caused enormous changes in Jewish life and had many ramifications. These three events were the formation of the United Monarchy, the rise of Hellenism, and the Golden Age of Spain. Each of these transitions had a different impact on Judaism, changing it forever. The different groups of people involved changed different aspects of Jewish life, including linguistics, politics, traditions, and literature. The United Monarchy took place between 1020 and 921 BCE. It was the transition from a tribal society to a true form of government. In this monarchy, Samuel appointed Saul as the first king. Saul was succeeded by King David and eventually followed by Solomon. This time was the most documented time in all of biblical history. During this period, David was God's right hand man. The Jewish people believed that the Messiah was once a king living somewhere in the Davidic line. They believe that the Messiah in the Bible was a human king. The word Messiah means “the anointed one.” David is the one who brings the scattered tribes together into a government. He instituted many new things like scribal culture and census records. This becomes the prototype of the ideal Jewish monarch. He established the city of Jerusalem or the “City of David”. His legacy becomes a major theme in Jewish history. Thanks to him, the First Temple was built for worship and sacrifice in 950 BCE. This temple was extremely important to the Jewish people. During these three periods, Jews experienced many changes in their lives in many different categories. Although massive changes were made, in each of these eras, Jews managed in one way or another to maintain their cultural identity while adapting to other ways of life.
