  • Essay / Essay from the Odyssey: The Morality of Hospitality in the Odyssey

On the other hand, there are a few instances where hospitality is not exactly demonstrated and Odysseus begins to question their stay. The first side of hospitality that Homer really likes to show is the positive and this refers to a few different books like Telemachus treating Athena with food or Eumaeus's reception with Odysseus. While there are many great offers of hospitality, those of negativity play out within the house of Penelope or the cave of Polyphemus. Finally, on both sides of hospitality there are common elements that define whether it is indeed respectable hospitality and I believe Homer wanted readers to imagine that overall.
