Essay / Song of Solomon Essay: Devotion and Protection - 599
Devotion and Protection in Song of SolomonSong of Solomon is a novel written by Toni Morrison. As I further researched the Bible, the title refers to a book in the Old Testament. A major theme of the book of the Bible is love. It's a matter of honor and loyalty. This is similar to the theme of love and protection in Toni Morrison's book. Three female characters who best represent him are: Pilate, Ruth and Madeleine called Lena. In the book, it's women trying to protect the people they love from the men in their family. In the Bible, they occupy devotional roles similar to those they love. In Song of Solomon, Pilate is a strong-willed and independent woman. The reason Ruth goes to her is to protect her child. The first time Ruth needs help is because of the way Macon mistreats her (125-6). She is afraid of Pilate because of her anomalies and what Mâcon said about her (138). Ruth ignores middle of paper......cast out of her body, she is considered good by being faithful to Jesus and loving him to the end (Mark 16:9). Solomon and the Bible, these three characters have similar roles and personalities to their counterparts. Pilate, Ruth and Magdalene are characters devoted to those they love and who try to help them and protect them from harm. Like the Song of Solomon in the Bible, the women in the novel love and care for their family members..
