When we are children we are taught not to judge a book by its cover, for most of us it is more easy said than done. Racial profiling affects millions of people in the United States alone. Seemingly innocent people are targeted solely because of the color of their skin and their nationality. Whether or not racial profiling is appropriate is a widely debated topic around the world. The question though is: Is it fair to judge someone just because they are different from you? I don't think so. As a nation, we grow up watching TV shows and movies that encourage people of another race to be bad or tend to get into even more trouble. Whether it's an African-American who makes a drug deal in the latest blockbuster movie, or a Muslim who plots another terrorist attack in the latest action TV episode. Of course, I do not agree with the actions taken by the individuals who cost thousands of lives during the horrific act of terror perpetrated in New York on September 11, 2001. These events deeply shook our nation and sowed fear among many; no one will forget where he was the day the Twin Towers fell and innocent people lost their lives. Even though it was a dark day in America, that does not give us permission to treat everyone of Muslim descent, or any race for that matter, like criminals. We are all human beings and deserve to be treated fairly and kindly unless we do not. showed a reason to do otherwise. As a nation, we cannot live in fear because a group of horrible individuals committed a devastating act. These actions may have shaken our nation, but they should not completely break us and cause us to treat innocent people unfairly and without respect. Unfortunately, there are too many to even count and that needs to change. Finally, as a nation, we must educate ourselves to the reality of the effects that racial profiling can have on individuals and keep in mind what we are taught as young children.
