Essay / How Modernism Shaped Society
Throughout history, humanity has changed significantly. One way to see this change is modernism. Modernism changed the general thinking of humanity and can be seen through changes in art and music, as well as the theories of Sigmund Freud and Charles Darwin. Modernism is a character or quality of thought, expression, or technique that goes against classical or traditional norms. Say no to plagiarism. An example of how modernism changed humanity can be seen in the changes in art and music during the modern era. The music was very happy and energetic before modernism took over. For example, the song The Movement of the Four Seasons I: Spring (1725) by Antonio Vivaldi, very joyful and elastic, was written before modernism. In rebellion against this, music became more dramatic and harder on the ears, even though people liked it to be harsh and thought it was good. One of the songs that exemplifies modernism is Black Angels (1971) by George Crumb. This song is very dramatic and expressive and arguably difficult to listen to. Another example is the change in art. In the early modern era, art was about details, background, and realism. One of the early modernist paintings was Hyacinthe Rigaud's Louis XIV of France (1854). This painting has great detail and very vibrant colors and almost looks like a photograph because of the details. After a while, many painters wanted to be different and make their paintings more organic and abstract. One of the painters was Edvard Munch. One of his paintings called The Scream (1893) features very free and organic lines and even looks like something someone would paint in fourth grade. Her painting has a very different touch and visual feel, which made her very famous. Throughout the modern era, humanity has changed its views on what art and music are. Furthermore, Sigmund Freud changed the way humanity thought during the modern era. Before modernism, humanity was prim and proper and never discussed inappropriate or deeply emotional things. Freud, however, brought some interesting and logical new ideas to the modern era. One of his ideas, or conspiracy theories, was that when we are little, we are sexually attracted to our parents. He says that because they are our main source of love, we are attracted to them. He also said that we are only attracted to one of our parents and not the other, that's why we love each other more. This was called the anal phase. Another thought or conspiracy was that the way we see our parents loving each other, it affects the way we see the world and love the people who come into our lives, as well as the way we love others . Not only did Sigmund Freud bring new ideas, but another thinker, Charles Darwin, brought new ideas to the modern era. He changed the way humanity believed in the beginning of life. Previously, people believed in the Bible and that God created man. After Darwin's theory of evolution, people began to change their minds. Then they applied his ideas to all aspects of life (political, social, economic) and started having problems. For example, humanity used its power to justify political, social or economic views and this was Darwin's idea of survival of the fittest. Keep in mind: this is just one..
