Ask any car enthusiast and they will tell you that having the best parts in the car makes for the best car. But – one problem can stall the entire machine – if the parts don't match, the car's value drops significantly. Some experts may say that pieces must be original to be most valuable, such as an antique with matching patina and model numbers. Others may say that the more spare parts the vehicle has, the more the car should cost. Still others argue that whatever combination of original and upgraded equipment will enable optimal performance on a track will give the most meaning and value to the machine. But in all the cases mentioned above, each part must fit perfectly with the others around it so that the basic functions can be performed. Otherwise it becomes too big a paperweight. Compare U.S. government programs and services to a car and the similarities are striking. The drivers or owners are the head of government, which, as defined by the Constitution/Declaration of Independence, is the people. The driver must seek to take care of his vehicle in order to maintain functional equipment. The engine is the economy and driving force of capitalist society, giving power to all other parts of the automobile. The seats are wellness programs that provide support and comfort to the driver and passengers. They must be practical but comfortable, otherwise they weigh too much or are too sterile. Each part of a vehicle corresponds surprisingly well to a different aspect of government functions. Even the bumper acts like the army: protecting passengers from the rigors of the outside world.
