In Brave New World, sex is a unifying activity, distinct from love. Promiscuity is a normal thing. In the “World State,” “everyone belongs to everyone else” (Huxley 40). In other words, exclusive partnerships are eliminated. As a result, sex has become a meaningless act and everyone has sex with everyone. An example of this is when Lenina is in an elevator with men from the Alpha locker room. As Huxley describes it: “…Lenina’s entrance was greeted with many friendly nods and smiles. She was a popular girl and, at one time or another, had spent a night with almost everyone” (Huxley 56). Even at a young age, children participate in sexual activities. In Brave New World, at the hatchery and conditioning center, children play erotic games. Although sexual promiscuity today is not as extreme as that seen in Brave New World, sexual activity is increasingly common among adolescents and often separated from love. Advertisements have sexual connotations and children are exposed to sexual images from a very young age. Additionally, in today's society, many people experience "one-night stands", which proves that today's sex can sometimes be distinct from sex.
