The topic of the article relates to the class discussion because we talked about violence and what it entails. As far as this case is concerned, there is a difference between discipline and physical violence. We can try to ensure discipline at all levels without resorting to abuse. Their parenting approach needs to be questioned when it comes to whether it is appropriate to hit a child when they misbehave. Before reading the entire article, one would automatically assume that the victim is the mother in the incident due to the headline. The article only states how a man is on parole for child abuse, as well as how he killed the child after becoming frustrated. However, once you finish reading the article, it is clear that the victim in the whole situation is the child and his father. Honestly, I feel like the media makes headlines like these to get attention and not to tell the whole story. The victims are not mentioned as much as the perpetrators of the crimes in the majority of media reports. The victims in this story are an 11-month-old baby and the baby's father. It is difficult to tell how the father is portrayed in the article because very little is said about him, which is frustrating for the reader after seeing the title. Which is a recurring pattern in cases similar to this, most often the father is not talked about unless he is the perpetrator of the crime. It's clear he's taking action by trying to raise money from the online community by creating a GoFundMe page to help pay legal fees to allow him to gain custody of his other children he had with Coria. For the baby, it's the same thing, there's not much about her. The article focused more on his injuries than his condition as a child. The father has two other children but he will now not be able to see his baby grow and develop as he should. RaeLynn Martinez's death is a tragedy because her life was in the hands of her mother's boyfriend. The couple gave several explanations for how RaeLynn received her injuries. The mother, Coria, told detectives that RaeLynn fell while trying to climb into her high chair while she was in the bathroom. Canales-Hernandez told detectives he was elsewhere when RaeLynn was injured. None of the explanations made sense. Until Canales-Hernandez finally confessed what really happened. He was playing with the baby, she fell, hit her head and started crying. Instead of trying to comfort her, he sits her in her high chair and tries to feed her. He becomes frustrated with the baby as he picks up a chair and throws it at her, causing her to fall out of the high chair. The child suffered a cardiac arrest and severe brain injury which led to his death two days later. The author of the crime, Canales-Hernández, was not attacked through the article, although he is the main person talked about. Nowhere in the article does it mention who he was as a person, only what he did. The mother, Coria, hasn't been mentioned much like Canales-Hernandez. She did.
