Essay / Personal Reflection on Becoming a Counselor - 1770
As a young man, I lived my life relentlessly in a self-centered manner, which led me down a path of greed and carelessness. I struggled with depression and addiction for one main reason; I considered myself “less than” because I existed as a homosexual. Because of this mindset, I sought therapy and had some amazing revelations as a client with the help of a counselor. My new self-awareness helped me accept myself and others. As a result, I was also taught to live more selflessly and healthily. This profound life experience has remained the catalyst for my journey to help facilitate the well-being of people suffering from social problems.
