The political implications of Merton's Anomie and Strain Theory could result in almost anything that can reduce tensions between individuals with as a direct result of a reduction in crime. However, changing systematic approaches will seek to alleviate tensions within society, which will ultimately reduce tensions between individuals. Simply put, if Merton's theory of anomie and tension were to be implemented in the criminal justice system and society when it was conceived and in the current system, it would have to aim to change both society and the individual.
