Essay / Countries with English as a Second Language - 1552
CHAPTER IINTRODUCTIONAn introduction is the first point in everything we want to do. In writing this proposal, the first chapter is the introduction, which contains the background of the study, the reason for choosing the topic, the problem statement, the objective of the study, the hypothesis, the limitation of the problem, the significance of the study, the definition of key terms. and Organization of the research.1.1 Context of the studyOne of the functions of language is that of a communication tool. Some countries use English as a second language, for example Malaysia and Singapore. In Indonesia, English is a foreign language. The Indonesian government chooses English as the first foreign language to be taught in schools such as Junior High School (SMP), Senior High School (SMA) and University. It is important for students to learn the language because English is not only an international language but also a scientific language. Some students struggle to master English because they only have a few times to learn and practice it each week at school. Learning English involves mastering four skills such as listening, reading, speaking and writing. Writing skill is a more complex and more difficult skill to teach because it requires not only mastery of grammatical and rhetorical devices, but also conceptual and judgmental devices (Heaton, 1975: 138). Therefore, the teacher must be creative in delivering the lesson, in order to arouse students' interest in the subject being taught. Teaching is not easy, but it is very important and rewarding when teachers see that students can achieve the goal of the learning process. Some students think that English is difficult and makes them stressful. However, the teacher can take advantage of middle of paper......instructions to do something. The aim is to explain how something can be done.1.9 Organization of the researchThe author has divided the proposal into three chapters: Chapter I is an introduction which includes the background of the study, the reason for the subject, the problem statement, the objective of the study, hypothesis, limitation of the problem, importance of the study, definition of key terms and organization of the research.
