So, Kayla was part of the top 3 who composed and illustrated her own story, "The day I found a magic wand". Her school honored Kayla and her book was published with a copy kept in the school library. In 2008, Kayla was a student in Cobalt Middle School's leadership class, where she contributed to numerous fundraisers. With a group of 15 students, Kayla was able to travel to Washington, DC, on a civic and educational field trip. From a young age, Kayla has been selfless, caring, charitable, empathetic and generous.
