Compared to the 10 Commandments which are concise and simple, Sharia is quite extensive and addresses personal issues such as hygiene, diet, dress code and sexual matters, while the 10 Commandments mainly cover ways to avoid sin. Both the 10 Commandments and Sharia law condemn idolatry, murder, adultery, theft, intentional lust and desire for immoral sexuality, and wanting or taking another's property. The Quran spelled out several punishments for non-compliance with Sharia law, including beheading/crucifixion (Quran 5:33), flogging (Quran 24:2), and hellfire (Quran 40:70-72). . . This is different from the 10 commandments because there is no punishment for not following the 10 commandments. Although the 10 Commandments and Sharia are two different aspects of the ethical dimension of Catholicism and Islam, evaluating these ethical rules reveals a number of similarities and differences that link the two religions.
