    Mr. Buchanan tends to dive headfirst into any situation. The narrator of this novel, Nick Carraway, provides insight into Tom's true carefreeness. “They were carefree people, Tom and Daisy – they smashed things and creatures and then retreated into their money.” (179) Nick's quote regarding the Buchanans shows how they look down on others for the simple fact that they can because they have the money to do so. Regarding Tom having old money, Daisy married him for convenience and lifestyle. Eventually boring with Daisy, he falls in love with his mistress Myrtle Wilson but in the end, Tom stays with the woman he believes is best for his life and his love.,
