The study of British colonialism is a rather new field with much to discuss and much more to debate. The recent recognition of new nation states that were once under the control of Britain is a growing phenomenon that continues to play an important role in world politics today. Since the rather recent period of these new nations, new studies have been made of the history of a) the peoples who inhabited the land before Britain, b) how Britain occupied and controlled the land, and now c) after Great Britain. This is an increasingly important subject in the historical field, because seventy-five years ago it was not thought that Britain would relax its control over India or Nigeria. This is why post-British colonialism is important today, because it is a new topic to discuss and debate. And alongside this trend comes the new age view of reading and interpreting history. Postmodernism is a very new view of history and one that grows with each generation. This is a study that is not limited to great events or people; it is the study of ordinary people through their social, economic and political advantages. It is the study of the common man through his diaries, emails, letters, newspaper columns, etc. British colonialism only saw this method because of the majority of people who use it.
