This article will review the book “Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity: An Introduction to Worldview Issues, Philosophical Foundations, and Models Integration, by David N. Entwistle. As the title suggests, this book explains how to integrate psychology and theology. He also explains why it is so important to be able to integrate the two. Entwistle explains that just because the two are different doesn't mean they should be separate and we should use both of our worldviews. “Weaving together the perspectives of psychology and Christian theology can help us understand and appreciate humanity more fully than we could either perspective alone. » (p.3) Entwistle explains that our worldview has a significant impact on our Christian and psychological worldviews. God created us all differently; some of us grew up in small towns, in large families, in different countries, in big cities. We all come from different homes, have different family units and the list goes on. Because we are all created differently, our opinions and reactions are all different, making our worldviews unique. Entwistle believes that our worldview is not something we choose or choose. He believes it is created by our life experiences. He begins by presenting 5 models that involve integration. These models are enemies, spies, colonialists, neutral parties and allies. He states that the models "represent different ways of conceptualizing the relationship between psychology and religion in general or psychology and Christianity in particular." (p. 136) Those who follow the enemy model take an “either/or” position (p. 137). They agree that the two subjects should be kept separate at all times. There is no intermediary between the two. In addition to completing my degree, I also plan to continue to develop my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It would be impossible for me to effectively integrate both psychology and my Christian faith if the two did not align. Enwistle focuses a lot on people's worldview. After reading this text, I saw the importance of being open to other worldviews. As a counselor, I will come into contact with people from all walks of life. If a client comes to me, I can't expect them to have the same point of view as me. If I'm not open to their point of view, I won't be able to help them overcome whatever their situation. By recognizing that everyone has a different world view, it will allow me to be open and more understanding towards them..
