  • Essay / A look at hydroelectric energy - 1244

Hydroelectric energyWater is the basis of all living things on earth. In addition to sustaining life, water has been used for centuries to power sawmills that would produce electricity. Like many other water sources, water has certain advantages and disadvantages. There has been intense debate about whether this energy source is worth using water from lakes and rivers, which is important for protecting animals and plants. A typical hydroelectric plant is a system made up of three parts: a power plant where electricity is produced; a dam that can be opened or closed to control water flow; and a tank where water can be stored. Water behind the dam flows through an intake and pushes against the blades of a turbine, causing them to spin. The turbine then turns a generator which produces electricity. The amount of electricity that can be generated depends on how high the water falls and how much water is flowing through the system. Electricity can be transported over long-distance power lines to homes, factories and businesses. So, what exactly is water energy? Water energy is the energy that comes from the power of water. Power sources using water have been around for thousands of years in the form of water clocks and water wheels. A more recent renovation has been hydropower, or electricity produced by the flow of water over dams. In the late 19th century, hydropower became a source of electricity generation. The first hydroelectric plant was built in Niagara Falls in 1879. By 1881, street lights in the city of Niagara Falls were powered by hydroelectricity. In 1882, the world's first hydroelectric plant began operating in the United States...... middle of paper ......lp and the needs of foreign countries. This is an expensive project, so it must be managed carefully and by the right people for it to be successful. After sharing all these facts and information about hydroelectric power, I personally believe that it is one of the best energy resources we have. Like all other resources, this one has its ups and downs, but for me it is more efficient and to some extent environmentally friendly, clean and does not contribute to global warming and climate change as do fossil fuels. Hydroelectric power plants also ensure a reliable supply of electricity by enabling stable production, which is not the case for other energy sources such as wind and solar power. The best thing about this energy resource is that it is so efficient and good that most countries in the world can have it..
