People around the world participate in recovery programs every day. Dedicated people in professions such as occupational therapy work to help each person regain their ability to engage in daily activities. One who wishes to pursue a career in occupational therapy must first evaluate the career and the significant effects on oneself and clients. Occupational therapy first appeared in a modern context in the 18th century; however, occupational therapy dates back to 100 BC. The American medical system adopted occupational therapy in the 19th century. In 1910, occupational therapy became a realized profession. Then the main goal was to work with individuals to bring them to a fully functional state. Around 1930, standards of practice were developed for occupational therapists (OTs). The career continues to evolve and change as new illnesses and disabilities emerge. Even with all the changes, the main goal remains intact: helping people. There are certain key personality traits, characteristics and qualities associated with working as an occupational therapist. You have to be patient, organized, empathetic and energetic. Patience, being one of the most important elements, will help customers resolve their issues in a calm and appropriate manner. Empathy is also important. In order to gain a clint's trust, he must believe that his occupational therapist truly understands what he is feeling and what he is going through. Strong people skills are essential for a career in occupational therapy. Working with people is a daily task and these people often face difficult aspects of their lives. An occupational therapist must also have great problem-solving skills. Must be able to discuss issues with a client in the middle of a paper... Entry level education required is an associate degree. A career in occupational therapy is challenging, but rewarding. A people person would enjoy constant interaction with clients and families.
