  • Essay / Theme of hands in Fahrenheit 451 - 1323

Faber “saw what his hands had done and he seemed surprised” (Bradbury 84). Montag stood there while "his hands, of their own accord, like two men working together, began to tear the pages of the book." Faber tries to stop him but Montag “pushed him away and let his hands continue” (Bradbury 84). This is important because he compares his hands to real human beings. Meaning his hands hurt him so much that he compares them to something with a mind and a brain, that's why his mouth used words to tell Faber to stop, but his hands wouldn't stop not tearing out pages because they had a spirit. of their own accord. Even though Montag doesn't actually want to destroy the Bible, he lets his hands act on their own because he desperately needs Faber's help.
