Essay / Argument for Restriction of Advertising - 1732
Advertising should be restrictedIn today's world, advertising plays a major role in influencing the thought process, opinions and perceptions of our societies to the with regard to their daily “necessities”. In our busy, hectic and overloaded lives, technology has advanced in such a way that people believe that their daily routines are the easiest and most convenient way of life. However, our perception of convenience is often masked by society's idea of "necessities." one might conclude that they are not necessary at all. It is said that “every coin has two sides”, with its advantages, unlimited advertising has negative impacts. These negative impacts affect the economy, society and people in a very influential way. Unlimited advertising has various effects on the economy. Advertising can benefit the economy to some extent, but the real burden of payments and contributions falls on consumers. We know that an organization has to spend a lot of money on advertising and to meet this expense the price of the product has to be increased. No manufacturer does their own advertising, requiring them to hire someone to do it for them. Advertising therefore leads to unnecessary price increases. Sometimes a large company can spend millions and billions on advertising campaigns and bear the high costs of advertising by charging customers and consumers who buy the product. In this reference it is said that advertising costs are passed on to consumers in the form of high prices. For example, if the factory cost of the Apple iPhone 16GB costs $600, due to advertising costs, the market value of the iPhone rises to $800. The burden of this $200 is placed on the counter...... middle of paper......an evil.” There is no doubt that certain restrictions benefit society more in the long term than giving free rein to the limits of advertising. A restriction in the advertising sector also balances the weight of the importance of society, economics and ethics. people have a clear view of things that are beneficial to them, as they would not be misled into purchasing an inferior product. Moreover, keeping society and ethics hand in hand, ethics is very important to introduce a clean society in front of the world. Restricting ads would strengthen ethics, keep culture intact, and benefit everyone. Advertisements should indeed be limited to allow the world and society to function more efficiently and ethically. “It did what all ads are supposed to do: create anxiety that can be relieved by purchase.” » -David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest
