Brave New World and GattacaHuxley Living in a genetically perfect world is not necessarily a great achievement for humanity. This makes one think: “Where do you draw the line in the advancement of eugenics? Both worlds, the Brave New one and Gattaca, are alternate (clearly dystopian) futures, written and shown credibly (not as much in BNW, though) through the use of satire. Furthermore, for GATTACA, the director very effectively integrates the traditional elements of cinema - a murder-mystery linked to a love story PLUS a touch of science fiction. The satire in Huxley's novel is blatantly obvious (mockery of today's education system and morality as well as many other subjects), as he writes with the aim of teaching and pleasing at the same time. time. However, with GATTACA, the satirical messages are not immediately noticeable - even after seeing the film three times. It is obvious that within the GATTACA institution, there is certain discrimination against the genetic marginal class; it arose naturally. Director Niccol makes fun of today's view of prejudice and racism. In the future of GATTACA, this prejudice will be called genism – genetic discrimination. Racism is a less specific form of genderism, and although such discrimination is prohibited, the laws are unenforceable because in this dystopian society, as is the case in BNW, a person's "genetic quotient" is known from birth. The disadvantaged people of this world are limited but conscious of their social status and they are not particularly satisfied with it. With BNW, the lower castes seem to be (they are made to believe) conscious but they are conditioned to like their work “light,... childishly simple”. (p.204 BNW)Another satirical message explored in both works is that of advertising. Our society is becoming increasingly accessible, yet controlled, through the use of identity surveillance. Huxley and Niccol simply point out that it is incredibly disconcerting to think that one day our identity will be verified through daily blood and urine samples. On this subject, the only difference between BNW and GATTACA is that in BNW, the director or controller is aware of the level of promiscuity or behavior of “individuals” through word of mouth. There is also a major similarity: in both worlds, the Director is fully aware of the existence of Alphas and in the case of GATTACA, elites.
