    Both a remarkably intelligent and profound woman in the scientific world, Marie Skłodowska Curie changed the way science would be viewed in the future. Curie discovered the elements radium and polonium, and conducted groundbreaking research into radioactivity. Both a chemist and physicist, Curie has won numerous awards and distinctions in several fields. Curie paved the way for many years of unlimited discoveries. Born to Bronisława née Boguska and Władysław Skłodowski on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Kingdom of Poland, Marie Sklodowska Curie was one of five children. Both her parents were teachers and she grew up in rather poor circumstances. His family therefore tried to invest to recover from previous losses, but the investment proved weak; with this, the family decided to accommodate the boys in their house. When she was ten, her mother died of tuberculosis three years after her sister Zofia died of typhus caught by a resident at their home. After these events, her atheist father forgot the ways of her Catholic mother and Skłodowska Curie became an agnostic. But these experiences and obstacles did not prevent Skłodowska Curie from following and admiring her sister Bronisława, whom she had previously followed to the Flying University and who had also taken her to Paris after moving there herself. Curie was also influenced by her father from a young age when he brought home scientific equipment and taught her and her siblings how to use them.
