Essay / Medical School - The start of the career I aspire to
The greatest impact on our lives today is our well-being. Delving into the physiological mechanisms of the body, studying the intricacies of human anatomy, and using this knowledge to improve the health of others would provide me with the career I aspire to. To gain first-hand experience, I arranged to shadow a doctor in Bangladesh. Although they do not have the facilities of the NHS, I saw the core values of professionalism, competence, patience and resilience upheld by all staff when caring for patients. During one clinic, I watched a doctor consult with more than 40 patients, which showed me the boundless endurance with which doctors face overwhelming tasks. I witnessed the team's calm but methodical response when a young girl involved in an accident arrived urgently, highlighting the quick thinking and teamwork required when faced with unpredictable situations . Speaking to doctors and doctors during an internship at university introduced me to the many branches of medicine such as pathology and anatomy. I had the chance to tour the morgue and learn how donated bodies are embalmed and sent to the university for dissection. The respect shown to the deceased is immense as they left their bodies for research in the hope that it could save the lives of others. I can't wait to learn anatomy in college. Say no to plagiarism. Part of my National Citizen Service (NCS) allowed me to work with people I wouldn't normally come into contact with, but it allowed me to experience other cultures. Working as a team, I had to put aside my personal opinions to work toward our goals, just like a doctor would do when working as a team. To continue to develop my portfolio, I have started working in a care home for people with learning disabilities where I hope to develop my communication skills with vulnerable people to better prepare me for dealing with a wide range of patients in the future. As an active member of my sixth grade, I serve as a biology and chemistry mentor. I explain difficult concepts clearly to younger students. I also received first aid and CPR training through academic enrichment. Outside of school, I volunteer at a library where I lead technology assistance sessions for the elderly. This involves organizing sessions and doing one-on-ones where I take the time to teach older people how to use their devices at their own pace. NCS allowed me to tackle challenges such as leading a team, planning routes and maintaining team motivation, while developing integral interpersonal skills. A doctor's job can be stressful, so it's important to have ways to relax, one way I deal with stress is through my hobbies. I dabble in music, when I listen to songs I try to break them down into their component parts and focus on the individual parts such as drum patterns or melodies. This allows me to observe how each individual part contributes to the song as a whole. A doctor would find this skill useful.
