  • Essay / Rock Cycle Essay - 1197

Transformation of igneous rocks or sedimentary rocks into metamorphic rocks involving changes in temperature and pressure, together or separately (Goodman, 1993). The process is called metamorphism. Metamorphism will change the textural, structural, and physical and chemical properties of a rock. As mentioned, “meta” means change and “morphe” means shape. Therefore, metamorphic rocks form when the reorientation and recrystallization of minerals in these rocks form foliation (Johnson and DeGraff, 1988). Temperature and pressure changes due to burial deep beneath the Earth's surface will alter flat mineral molecules caused by magma and friction from tectonic forces.
