In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller details the historical event, the Salem witchcraft trials which took place in Massachusetts in 1692. The drama centers on John and Elizabeth Proctor and a young daughter Abigail Williams. , with whom John Proctor committed adultery. In order to get rid of Elizabeth so that Abigail can have John for herself, Abigail accuses John's wife of witchcraft, a very frowned upon crime. John Proctor goes through a series of changes, going from a horrible person who cheated on his wife to a tragic hero who will give up his life to tell his wife. John Proctor is seen as many things in this play, but in the end he proves to be an honest and noble man. John Proctor is both flawed and honorable. After having an affair with Abigail. His wife was unable to forgive him for this, and their marriage is unhappy, John has the guilt of his past affair weighing on his shoulders, he apologizes for the mistake but the guilt is shown to still be there. The Crucible showed that John is a very courageous and strong man who, after being accused of witchcraft, continued to fight for the good cause and have so much weight and pressure on his shoulders because of the harm to his wife, the hand was finally raised after he gave up his life and showed his wife that he would die for her life to make her and his children happy and have a comfortable life.
