Essay / Invention, History and Design of Solidworks
The original idea of this work was the research of SolidWorks features and started in 2014. The author decided to develop other ideas based on his research and suggestions for implement useful features from some other popular CAD and 3D modeling software to show what could be improved in SolidWorks. Later, the author changed his sources to websites on CAD, 3D modeling and animation in order to be up to date with modern features and improvements in software packages. The basic method was to compare the features of different software packages with SolidWorks and merge them with it. Features needed to be described and explained to understand why they would be useful in SolidWorks. In the first decade of the 20th century, before the massive computerization of manufacturing, production required a lot of human resources, as humanity had to carry out most of the process manually. , starting with technical documentation and ending with product recycling. Eventually, manufacturing volumes increased as did production speed and product complexity. It was for this reason that the manufacturing staff numbered hundreds of people. When the computer appeared, it was almost instantly integrated into agriculture, medicine, military and social industry because of its practical advantages. At first, the processing used in manufacturing was quite slow, but thanks to it, people could save a lot of time and human resources, thanks to the automation of certain processes. As the trend toward IT integration grew, the first computer-aided design (CAD) systems appeared, capable of automating the entire production cycle, from technical documentation to the production process. Nowadays, the global industry uses so many CAD systems that it is impossible to find a company. factory or construction office that would not use CAD. This global integration has led to the creation of complex CAD software that includes several types of functionality at once. Most of the time, you can find different volumetric modeling and express testing systems in these software. It is obvious that several companies are involved in the development of this type of software to supply the global industry. One of the giants in this field is Dassault Corporation with its SolidWorks software. In December 1995, the unknown American company SolidWorks Corporation developed the first version of 3D modeling software - SolidWorks 95. Over the next 23 years, 25 new versions of the program were released. created, more than 3.5 million copies have been sold and are used in many project organizations and universities. During its existence, SolidWorks has done enormous work, transforming a mid-level modeling system, which it was in 1995, into a complex CAD system, one of the most elite parametric modeling systems in the world. Hundreds of innovations and new technological solutions, first invented in SolidWorks has become a "classic" in the development of CAD applications over the last 20 years and is now used by most CAD developers in the world. SolidWorks Corp. was created in1993. From the new version of a software package developed in 1995, SolidWorks became the center of attention of CAD analysts. They were the first to realize the full functionality of 3D modeling software under Microsoft Windows. Before that, such developments were only made on Unix OS, where they were used for decades. Nowadays, Unix-style CAD software has become obsolete, with applications being ported to Windows. In 1997, SolidWorks Corp. was integrated into the IT holding Dassault Systèmes and, until today, analysts consider this purchase to be one of the most successful strategic solutions for Dassault. Nowadays, SolidWorks is one of the most popular and widely used 3D modeling software, which includes a wide spectrum of integrated CAE/CAM/PDM modules and more than 500 specialized applications. Since 1998, each new version has been developed in 15 languages. CADSolidWorks' global standard is an automatic projection, technical analysis and product preparation system of any manufacturing difficulty and objective. Developments from SolidWorks Corp. are known for their high level of quality, reliability and productivity, not to mention a qualified support team, which makes SolidWorks one of the best solutions for the industry. SolidWorks' complex solutions are based on high-level hybrid parametric modeling technologies and a wide spectrum of specialized modules. SolidWorks industrial integration shortens the entire production cycle and reduces costs. Traditionally, CAD systems focus on creating geometric models of products from geometric primitives, and most of the time working with such systems is spent on selection. elements of the required types and, above all, on the choice of the optimal sequence of their creation. Special software products are used to carry out technical or technological analysis, the results of which are corrected, and sometimes quite substantially. The creators of SolidWorks began to implement the system elements of an expert system designed to reduce the amount of designer thought required for the CAD system as a tool to minimize cost and suboptimal sequential work on the model, typical of existing parametric CAD systems. The SolidWorks software package deeply develops this approach. The SolidWorks software package is largely based on SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology, abbreviated as SWIFT. This complex is an integrated expert system that allows, from the first stages of design, with a high degree of automation, to solve the problem of project optimization. These include engineering and rapid analysis (strength, aeromechanics, kinematics and dynamics of mechanisms), manufacturability analysis (applied to plastics machining or molding requirements), due diligence of compliance with selected electronic document standards, as well as dimensional chain analysis, check cashing. product search conflicts, automatic sizing and process scoring, and even automatic creation of a new project based on an existing project on a number of formal parameters. 3D CAD is the basic and most used tool of the package and this thesis mainly focuses on its functionalities. As the name suggests, it allows for a user-friendly solid modeling experience. It is mainly used by engineers and designers, while architects prefer another program from Dassault Systèmes: CATIA. 3D CAD allows you to create 2D and 3D designs. A range of tools can help the engineer reuse.
