Malo wants to become a scammer. He meets Bone, a drug dealer he knows through Amir. Malo begins an illegal life selling marijuana. The chapter ends with an extract from his mother's diary. She explains that Philadelphia's public schools are not safe and are known for problems. She wants to protect Malo and she wants him to study. She notices how much he has changed and understands that he must explore the world on his own. Amina just wants the best for Malo and doesn't understand that her two sons don't take life seriously. Being a student can be difficult. I don't always get what I want now. Money rules everything. Without money, a person could not even buy basic necessities. As I walk around with my friends, I notice that if you don't have money, you don't have power. I also note that if you don't have education, you won't have money. Money governs many things in a student's life. As a young adult with minimal responsibilities, I would like to go out and have fun every once in a while.
