  • Essay / Hershey Chocolate Case Study - 706

Mr. Hershey decided to name this new candy HERSHEY'S KISSES Chocolates. At first they were individually wrapped in small squares of silver foil, but in 1921 mechanical packaging was invented and introduced to the manufacturing world. New technology was also used to add a "plume" (a narrow strip of paper) to the top to inform consumers that it was real HERSHEY'S KISSES chocolate. The company trademarked “panache” in 1924. Over the next two decades, even more products were produced. These included MR. GOODBAR Candy Bar (1925), HERSHEY'S Syrup (1926), HERSHEY'S Chocolate Chips (1928), and KRACKEL Bar (1938). Hershey used new technology to make chocolate accessible to everyone. Chocolate was no longer reserved for the elite, everyone, even soldiers, could enjoy the benefits of chocolate.
