Essay / God as Sovereign - 731
Many people state that they do not believe in any kind of god, that the world simply came into existence. However, this belief cannot be true. By simply examining nature and all its intricate details, people are unable to deny the presence of a Creator. Deep down, people can't help but feel that there is something bigger than themselves. A Supreme Being – a god, but what kind of god is there? A god similar to Ares, the Greek god of war? The one who thirsts for blood and destruction? Or a placid god, parallel to Eirene, the Greek goddess of peace? Made by humanity, these so-called “gods” all carry flaws. The Bible, the Word of the Lord, remains the only book on earth that gives an account of the true God and his attributes. As readers examine the Word, they will realize that there is a righteous God, that He sends trials to His disciples to develop their faith, and that He remains sovereign. Some argue that God allows the destruction of countries out of hatred. towards humanity. This argument has some truth. However, God guarantees the fall of nations, not because of His hatred of people, but because of His intolerance of their sinful actions. If God would allow nations to continue in their iniquities without any sort of repercussions, then no one would fear Him. People would accept sin and reject the Lord. God maintains his supremacy over man by punishing the wicked. However, God does not always destroy the unrighteous immediately and without warning. The Old Testament records many situations in which the Lord sends a messenger to warn sinful nations and alert them of impending condemnation. Whether or not they accepted the warning and turned to the middle of paper, this man's failure to understand why something happened does not mean that God did not possess full power over the event. Common misconceptions about God run rampant. Some believe He sins just like humans. Others believe he desires the destruction of humanity. However, in reality there is a just God, a Lord who tests the faith of his subjects, a ruler who controls everything. People often dispute that God has no power over the earth. However, God's sovereignty remains evident in the extent to which countries fall when He decides to destroy them. That He disciplines the profane and prospers the deserving shows His righteousness. Even if afflictions arise, people must persevere and continue to look to God. Even though life sometimes seems hopeless, God remains almighty. His love for his disciples remains eternal. His control over the earth lasts forever.
