  • Essay / Nonverbal Communication and Effective Communication

When someone approaches you for a conversation, they should always feel comfortable knowing that they are being listened to. I believe in this generation, even with myself, I sometimes struggle to give my full attention in certain situations. These days, people are so willing to let someone finish speaking so they can say what they want to say, rather than absorbing what they're being told and responding directly. This is something I think everyone, including myself, should work on. Additionally, you need to recognize what someone tells you and clarify when you are confused in order to avoid making careless mistakes that can lead to assumptions, or if you work in a medical workplace, even cause errors diagnosis or evaluation. An example that many people may notice in their daily conversations of non-therapeutic communication is when a person always changes the subject during the conversation to something they prefer to talk about, or even judges others on their opinions, especially before be able to explain why she sees something a certain way. It is a communication problem because it is more focused on one person rather than equal communication between two or more.
