Essay on the Virtue of ViceAfter watching the films Remember the Titans and Seven in class, it made me realize everything that in the media revolved around vice and vice virtue. Almost everything we use as entertainment in the media revolves around these seven deadly sins, vices and seven cardinal virtues. The truth is that our society today thrives on these things; Many times we don't watch or listen to something that is entirely good, the bad being necessary to complete the entertainment factor. Our society loves to watch struggle and violence. Good versus evil is a very common theme in this type of media. This is shown in the two films we watched in class and in almost every other American feature film. We are now reaching a point where even children's films, once so innocent and good, are now transitioning into evil. Remember that Titans, a PG-rated Disney film, is something of an exception to this stereotype. Yes, it introduces evil at the beginning when the players struggle to become one and the nation as a whole does not welcome the idea of integrating schools. This is really the only time in the film where evil plays a role. This film is one of the true “feel good” films of recent years. The team comes together, and in doing so, brings the whole town together to realize that what matters isn't what's outside. The makers of this film have done a great job in making a film that appeals to both children and adults, which is very difficult to do in today's society. It was brought up in class that the film was not marketed as a true Disney film, and the marketers did this for a reason. Many teenagers and young adults are now somewhat frightened by the “Disney movie” stereotype. They are convinced that it is a cartoon story, fake and with a happy ending; which is true in some ways. I didn't know it was a Disney movie; More and more teenagers saw the film and appreciated it for what it was worth, a rare and truly great non-violent story that makes you feel good. Then there was Seven, a film directly based on the “seven deadly sins”. This film tells the story of two cops who try to track down a serial killer who commits murders based on victims who are models for the seven sins..
