Does boredom cause problems in adolescents? Boredom can be defined as a state of weariness or restlessness due to a lack of interest. Some believe that being bored can cause problems, while others believe that boredom can be channeled into good deeds and positive activities. What is correct? Does boredom lead to trouble? Or does boredom lead to helping others and improving oneself? What if the answer was both? Boredom does not lead to problems in all cases, but it cannot be denied that it does in others. The real answer to what boredom leads to lies in the disciplines offered to those who are bored. If a child is raised properly and properly disciplined, he will not get into trouble when he is bored, but instead will know how to control his impulses and channel that boredom into productive activity. Children spend the first six years mainly with their parents, but they will eventually go to school. The friends they make at school become their peers, and the majority of problems children/teenagers encounter are due to peer pressure. Peer pressure occurs when a peer or group of peers influences another person to do something they normally would not do. It could be something as small as changing your clothing style, or something as big as stealing or underage drinking. (Langholt) In big cities, one of the best examples of peer pressure is gangs. Gangs force their members to participate in activities, usually illegal, in order to be accepted. Acceptance is one of the social needs described by Maslow's hierarchy of needs, meaning that people are willing to do almost anything necessary to accommodate and satisfy this need (Mcleod). This desire to conform leads to a lot of problems, especially among adolescents. When you're ready to blind... middle of paper ...... the "troublemakers" are. Keep them away from them. Teach your children why you don't want them to make friends with their peers. (McLeod) Refrain from the “because I said so” cliché. This tends to lead to rebellion against the parent. If you treat teenagers as if they were adults, they will become responsible citizens because you have shown them respect. And they will return the favor. And they will stay out of trouble.
