A positive aspect is that John attends a day center, he has demonstrated that he is able to communicate with other service users and staff, John sometimes argues the staff in the day center task and are always enthusiastic to help. My role as John's social worker is to respect John's wishes and use and an ethical approach supports him in his decision to live independently, meeting standards of competence. There are resources in the community for service users with Down syndrome. The Downs Syndrome Association has developed an easy to read leaflet in large letters and pictures to help with the transition to leaving home and what John expects, the leaflet contains videos for John and his family. to watch out for and there are case studies of other people with Down syndrome who have also made the transition to independence, Downs syndrome.org.uk,
