Tagore's philosophy was very influenced by Indian scriptures like the Gita and the Upanishads. However, it was also very influenced by classical and modern Western educational thoughts; he synthesized the ancient Vedantic tradition with the modern scientific attitude in formulating the objective of education. Tagore's system of education also emphasizes the intellectual, physical, social, moral, economic and spiritual aspects of human life. By which a man can develop an integrated personality. The objectives of education are: (1) Self-realization: spiritualism is the essence of humanism; this concept was reflected in Tagore's educational philosophy. Self-realization is an important goal of education. The manifestation of personality depends on the self-realization and spiritual knowledge of the individual. (2) Intellectual Development: Tagore condemned the traditional system of education, in which books and examinations are considered important, in which the child is not encouraged to think and assimilate. what he had learned. According to him, education should encourage imagination, creative and free thinking, constant curiosity and alertness of mind rather than simple memory or sorting out information about unrelated facts. The child should be free to adopt his or her own path of learning that will lead to all-round development. (3) Physical Development: Tagore wanted, through education, to have healthy, physically well-developed children with sharp senses. He believed that there was an inseparable link between physical and mental faculties. The education of the body in the literal sense, according to him, does not consist in play and exercise, but in the systematic application of the body to useful work. It is...... middle of paper ...... vice not only to improve society but also because it will improve itself. Thus, education should aim to develop the individual personality as well as the social characteristics that enable him to live as a dignified being. Curriculum: In terms of curriculum, Tagore advocated a different direction in teaching. Rather than studying national cultures to win wars and cultural domination, he advocated a system of education that analyzed history and culture for advancements that could help break down social and religious barriers. Such an approach emphasized the innovations that had been made in integrating individuals from diverse backgrounds and in designing economic policies that emphasized social justice and narrowed the gap between rich and poor . The syllabus proposed by Tagore includes not only various subjects but also certain activities to be undertaken.
