These students come from all walks of life and from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds. (www.mayo.edu) The Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) recognized more than 400 accredited programs in 2005 and these programs must take between 9 and 24 months to complete a certificate, diploma or associate degree. After researching this healthcare profession, I found it very interesting how close this program is to becoming a doctor. Students have to learn some of the same subjects that a doctor has to learn, but with less time and, of course, they make a lot less money. This is an interesting area to train for, but it's a start to more exciting areas of medicine.
