Essay / National or international adoption - 1476
National or international adoption? Think about your very first memory. Do you make cookies with your mother? Do you throw a baseball with your dad? Now imagine your childhood if you hadn't grown up with a loving family who supported and cared for you. Alternatively, perhaps you grew up in a negative environment; you understand what it’s like to feel unloved. What does this have to do with adoption? There are more than 1.5 million children without families in the United States. 1.5 million children don't know what it means to feel like they have a purpose. The only way to solve this problem is adoption because it provides that positive environment that the child never had. Through my research, I have discovered that domestic adoption is a better option for families in the United States than international adoption. One of the main reasons this is a better option is that domestic adoption is ultimately much less expensive. A second reason why domestic adoption is higher is that it is a faster process. It's faster because parents don't need to go through stubborn and often very difficult adoption agencies. Plus, you don't need to travel to the foreign country multiple times to meet with the agency and go through all the numerous paperwork. The final reason why domestic adoption is the best option is that the child has the opportunity to meet their birth parents later in life. A child adopted internationally often has no family records or medical history. Although some argue that adoption is not necessary in the United States, according to the 2000 census, there are more than 1.5 million children available for adoption nationwide. ..... the best thing we can do for a child who otherwise would not have a family” (Reitz). Nonetheless, it is conclusive that domestic adoption is less likely to be as stressful for both parents and child. Works Cited “Adoption”. Online collection of opposing viewpoints.
