  • Essay / American Women in Society - 1792

Throughout history, women of the Americas have played a major role in society. In a time when women could take care of themselves, they could own property and enforce laws. Even after their rights were taken away by the arrival of Europeans in 1462, women had no control over themselves, could not own property, and had no political rights. They continue to have great influence on the construction of the American government. Today times have changed, women are fighting back and taking charge of their freedom. Women are now regaining power over themselves and obtaining political rights. In early America, women had the same rights as men; When Europeans arrived, women were deprived of their equality and no longer had control over themselves. Over time, the women fought back and have now regained their freedom. Women in the Americas, before Europeans, had a certain level of control over themselves. In most cases, a family was based on women. When a woman married, the husband had to move into his wife's home. Women owned property most of the time and when they had to divorce their husbands, they were not affected by the loss of their property. This meant that anything a woman earned and earned belonged to her and the husband had no authority to take it away. This also meant that the husband had to move out and look for a new home elsewhere. Most of the time, women had power over the plantations and fields that generated income and food for the family table. The ability to have a say over the plantations meant that they were the bosses and were able to shape their community in a motherly way, the same way a mother cares for a newborn. born. With this...... middle of paper ......amien, a woman, a mother. They are responsible for shaping the history and survival of humanity. Man should not forget the struggles of women and how far they have come. Man must remember women as our mothers of history and the mothers of our children and grandchildren, because without the strength of a woman, humanity will not survive. Works Cited Zinn, Howard.
