"Gold, who now speaks publicly on the subject of eating disorders, admits that her illness began around the age of seven, when she became obsessed with the media's definition of the ideal body" ( Chittom and Finley). Tracey Gold is a perfect example of how the media affects girls at such a young age. In the same way that they begin to dream of being a princess, they have the same vision of thinness as the models who ambush their lives daily. Airbrushing is a deceptive way to make young teenagers believe that models are perfect. “Advertisers often use airbrushing to make models or celebrities look younger, to change the apparent weight of individuals, and to eliminate perceived physical imperfections” (Issitt). Many people don't know that the people whose bodies they dream of having are not actually as they appear to be because of airbrushing. A considerable number of people resort to plastic surgery to achieve the ideal body. Using advertisements, airbrushing is a deceptive way to alter the appearance of individuals (Issitt). Many individuals attempt to obtain the bodies they see in advertisements, without knowing that the images they see do not match the appearance of the models. Airbrushing has a huge influence on the “beauty” of the models. “Guillen and Barr's study further indicated that adolescent girls are the primary targets of much of this weight loss advertising” (Issitt). Unfortunately, the market has no sympathy for young girls, trying to convince them that they are not as beautiful as they really are. The show captured a curvy Latina having great achievements in the fashion world despite her looks and looks. By allowing the appearance of a curvy woman, others might accept themselves. The media has affected many aspects of society, but it affects appearance the most. Teenagers are pressured to look fit and flawless because of the way the media portrays beauty. Photographs and videos are plastered into teenagers' lives to show them what they should look like, while the media should focus on showing teenagers how to accept themselves. Does society really need to change the channel or open a magazine to feel beautiful or to know that it is accepted? Model Tyra Banks said it best when she said, “Women should understand that there is no standard beauty” (“About…”).
