Alignment includes proper posture of the dancer's head, shoulders, and hips aligned vertically. Every dancer must perfect the turnout, which is the movement in which the dancer's legs rotate outward and emphasizes clean footwork, including allowing for correct body positions, angles and lines. It is imperative that a ballet dancer masters every detail in order to express complete fluidity throughout the dance, such as good posture, keeping the shoulders down and the tips of the toes. Russian ballet is known for its dramatic extensions and dynamic turns throughout its dance, as Pavlova did in The Dying.
