    “Every dream has a story behind it” In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, all the characters in the play have difficult dreams. Each individual dream answers the poem's question: "What happens to a dream deferred?" » Mom, Walter, Beneatha and Ruth's dreams come up against many obstacles that discourage them; however, throughout the play it results in the construction of their character. At the end of the play, the Young People come together as a family to fight for what is right. Hansberry chose “A Raisin In The Sun” to depict this even with the difficulties of trying to pursue dreams like a dried “raisin”; the “sun” is the hope of a better future for each character. Therefore, the characters' deferred dreams represent the meaning of the title "A Raisin in the Sun." Mom's dreams are presented as the main source of family beliefs. Buying a new house for mom is a better hope for the future of the family union. Faced with families' financial difficulties, this prompted Mom to make a radical change so that their family could overcome poverty. According to J. Charles Washington, from the article "A Raisin in the Sun' Revisited," "In fact, she is still a fighter, and she proves it by purchasing the house to make the change she now feels is necessary for the welfare of his family…” (Washington par.10). Mom's dream is postponed when Walter loses the insurance money. For example, mom trusting her own son and committing to believing in him shows her hope for a better future. Even after the raisins have dried in the sun, at the end of the play, Mom's dream of a better life for her family, of having a new house with its own garden, shows how... .. middle of paper. .....
