Australian beaches are some of the best in the world and WA beaches are some of the best in Australia. But this view may soon no longer be shared by everyone if the WA government continues to support and allow shark culls on Perth's main beaches. Hello, my name is Maya Koentgen, marine biologist, conservationist and beach user, and I'm here to tell you why shark culling needs to stop. Currently, hundreds of innocent sharks are being captured and killed. For what ? Because they are simply swimming in their own homes that we humans have invaded. One of the main reasons governments have wiped out sharks is because they come too close to shore and become a potential threat to swimmers. But why is this happening? This is due to a change in the sharks' eating habits, but because they are eating more humans, of course not! Rather because we humans are overfishing and eliminating the fish and food sources that sharks normally feed on. This forces the sharks to come closer to find food. As humans we have forced sharks closer and are now killing sharks because of our aggression....
