    Each year, companies spend millions of dollars on advertisements. The main objective of advertising is to get to sell their product or whatever they are presenting. Each element of the advertisement is carefully chosen to ensure that it will attract the audience's attention. The individuals who produce these advertisements use rhetorical appeals, known as ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos. These rhetorical appeals deal with emotions and logic and thrive on credibility and timing. Even advertisements aimed at children use these appeals to convince children that they need to convince their parents to buy them the product or to convince their parents to allow them to attend an event. A close analysis of a Day Out with Thomas commercial reveals that the rhetoric is used effectively through the exceptional believability, perfect timing, and happiness portrayed by the children. The Day Out with Thomas advertisement is aimed at children through the design features used. The advert features a very large image of Thomas the Tank Engine. Thomas is a favorite of many children and has appeared in books, television series and films. This is a character that makes children very excited when they see him. The ad also features two smaller photographs of children wearing Thomas hats. One of the children smiles while riding Thomas, and the other youngster smiles while being carried by his father. Bright colors are used for the background and font of the advertisement to ensure that children's attention is drawn directly to the artwork. Children's attention is also attracted by the circles and rectangles of different sizes which create a fanciful effect.
